29er Jib Announcement

The Technical Committee for the International 29er Class, chaired by Vice President Csaba Cserep, is examining the design of the current jib for the 29er.
The goal is to identify a cost-effective method to enhance the sail’s durability while ensuring that setup and handling of the 29er remain unaffected. Several jibs are presently undergoing testing in France and Italy by top sailors and coaches.
Should extensive testing and discussions yield one or more viable solutions in partnership with sailmakers, builders, dealers, and designers, a proposal will be put forth to the World Council for a vote by National Class representatives during the World Championships in Porto, Portugal, in August 2025. If approved, a timeline will be established for the new jibs to be recognized as Class legal, contingent on approval from World Sailing and the copyright holder. The earliest date for this will not be before January 1, 2026.
