Today marked the beginning of the Women Match Racing World Championship, held alongside the Red Sea Film Festival at the Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina!

Six teams are participating, including the top three ranked teams in the World Sailing rankings.

Wonderful conditions prevailed throughout the day with consistent winds of 8-14 knots from the NW, creating a stunning view with colorful sails visible from the shore.

Pauline Courtois and her team from France, three-time Match Racing World Champion and seven-time National Champion, triumphed in the first round robin, winning all five of their races.

Anna Ostling and her Swedish team, who took part in the first-ever Women’s America’s Cup, secured four victories.

Megan Thomson and her crew from New Zealand finished in third place in this initial round robin stage.

Kenza Coutard, Martina Carlsson, and Sumaya Bamakhrama, along with their teams, are ready at the start to contest for a podium finish on Day 1!

The ongoing plan includes two additional days of round robin racing to determine which teams will move on to the semi-finals.

Sailing in Jeddah is fantastic! The cheerful expressions of the competitors and the warm welcome from the Saudi Sailing Federation and JYC Academy indicate a bright future for our sport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
