Cheoy Lee Yachts, part of Cheoy Lee Shipyards, has launched the 127 Discovery, a luxury expedition yacht crafted with Nick Boksa from Boksa Marine Design. The yacht’s mission is to facilitate lavish journeys to remote and exotic locales.
With a length of 38.71 meters (127 feet) and a width of 8.79 meters (28 feet 6 inches), this “compact but highly functional” superyacht is equipped with two 800hp Volvo D13-800 diesel engines, providing a transoceanic range of 4,000 nautical miles (meeting IMO Tier III and U.S. EPA Tier 3 standards).
Similar to Cheoy Lee, Boksa Marine Design focuses on high-end leisure yachts alongside commercial maritime vessels. The 127 Discovery leverages this expertise, featuring a seakeeping, practical design with a full-displacement steel hull, sharp entry, and spray chine.
The exterior design is done by Nick Boksa. In a commercial ship design style, the 127 Discovery’s pilothouse is placed forward for enhanced visibility. The center of gravity is kept low for comfort at sea, positioning the tender on the aft main deck instead of the flybridge. A beach club is included within the transom hatch, which can be secured for safety.
According to Cheoy Lee Yachts, the 127 Discovery “delivers features and amenities typically found on a much larger yacht,” stating Boksa’s effective design integrates areas for owners, guests, and crew found on a 150-foot expedition yacht. Sylvia Bolton of Sylvia Bolton Design has crafted a “classic yet cozy” interior for the yacht.
The interior comprises five en-suite staterooms, including a spacious main-deck master. The formal saloon and dining area are intended for hosting, while the bridge-deck skylounge and sun deck cater to casual relaxation and enjoyment.
Great care has gone into optimizing service areas. Although the yacht can be operated with a smaller crew, it provides comfortable living quarters for up to 11, including a rare bridge-deck captain’s cabin for a yacht of this size and an engineer’s cabin located behind the engine room.
The tender is stored on the aft main deck. The expansive galley is home to both a walk-in freezer and a crew lounge, complemented by a dumbwaiter for efficient food service across all four decks.
Lo, Director of Cheoy Lee Shipyards, stated: “We have appreciated collaborating with Nick Boksa and his team in the design of the Cheoy Lee 127 Discovery.”
“Inspired by our shared commercial maritime experience, our goal was to develop an expedition yacht under 150 feet that maintains luxury, seaworthiness, and serviceability to allow owners to achieve their dreams of safe and comfortable worldwide exploration. The 127 Discovery has realized this vision beautifully, and we eagerly anticipate partnering with Nick on future models in the Cheoy Lee Discovery Series.”
Boksa, Lo, and the team from Cheoy Lee Yachts will exhibit at Bahia Mar Booth E504 during the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (October 30-November 3).
