After the triumph of the Youth Team in the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup, it’s time for the women of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli to showcase their skills in the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, which kicks off today.
Like the Under-25 event, there are twelve teams participating, with six from America’s Cup teams and six by invitation, divided into Group 1 and Group 2. Each group will participate in up to eight fleet races during the initial qualifying rounds.
At the conclusion of these races, the top three teams from each group will progress to a fleet race final (four races) to establish the overall standings and identify the top two teams for the Final match race.
The PWAC will feature One Design AC40 foiling monohulls. Each vessel will have a crew of four, comprising two helmswomen and two trimmers. Cyclists are not necessary, as the sail and foil control mechanisms are battery-operated. This format reflects the Preliminary Regatta stages conducted in Vilanova i La Geltrú and Jeddah, involving fleet races followed by a Final match race.
During the press conference, Giulia Conti, the skipper and helmswoman of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli women’s squad, stated: “The youth team’s victory at the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup greatly motivates us, as it demonstrates that the collaborative efforts we’ve made with the boys over the years have yielded results. We sense the entire team’s backing; there are no distinctions between men and women, just a unified group striving for a common objective.”
“Looking ahead to the coming days, we performed well in the Practice Races, and we just need to replicate those efforts. Most importantly, we must savor this experience, which is among the finest in my sailing career.”
The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli crew for the Puig Women’s America’s Cup will include: Giulia Conti, Margherita Porro (helmswomen), Maria Giubilei, and Giulia Fava (trimmers).
